SFC (Ret) Marvin Lewis Harrell Sr., 79, went home to be with God Dec. 7, 2020.

He was born Nov. 17, 1941 in Chesapeake, Va., in an area called South Hill. He attended Daleville Christian Fellowship where he was ordained as a deacon. He was a faithful member of the church where he worked in the food pantry, coached sports activities and drove the church van. He was saved and loved the Lord. He was very loving and generous and was very proud of his service to God and his country. He served in Vietnam, Germany and Korea for over 30 years and retired a SFC. He worked as a helicopter mechanic in the military and as a civilian.

Mr. Harrell was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Charles and Virginia Harrell; his brothers, Dallas, Earl, Dwight, Willie C. and Steven.

Survivors include his loving wife, Frances Elaine Harrell of Daleville; two sisters, Marcella Coles and Veronica (Theodore) of Tutwiler, Norfolk, Va.; three daughters, Cynthia (Paul) Quier of Enterprise, Diane (John) Wigglesworth of San Antonio, Texas and Suzette (Dennis) Meeks of Suffolk, Va.; two sons, Marvin Jr. (Yolanda) Harrell of Alabaster and Randall Harrell of Daleville; his loving grandchildren, Drake McLeod, Tyler, Kyle and Conner Harrell, Randy and Ty Harrell, Robert, Timothy and Tasha Johnson, Faith, Adriana, Elizabeth and John boy Wigglesworth, Cassandra Harrell, Christopher Harrell and Brittney (Robert) Broughton, David Wade Jr., and Morgan, Matthew and Justin Meeks; a host of great-grandchildren, family and friends.

Graveside service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 14, 2020 at the Alabama National Cemetery located in Montevallo.

Vernon Marvin Harvey  – The Suffolk News-Herald

Vernon Marvin Harvey left this world peacefully all too soon on Nov. 22, 2020, at Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk. Vernon was born in Nansemond County to the late James Lee and Beulah Harvey II on March 6, 1946. He attended Nansemond County Schools, worked for 42 years with the City of Suffolk Public Works Department and was a member of Tabernacle Christian Church.    

He was preceded in death by his siblings Carlton Harvey, Mary E. Harvey, Dorothy Harvey and Ajane Harvey. Although he has departed this phase of his life, he is present with the Lord and will live in the lives of his family and friends.  

Vernon leaves to celebrate and cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Shirley P. Harvey; one loyal daughter, Sherry Jones (Lemuel); three grandsons, LaMar Jones, LaMont Jones and Lemuel Jones Jr.; one sister, Beulah H. Phillips, all of Suffolk; and one sister-in-law, Jean Meeks of Tarboro, N.C.; a very devoted nephew, Benny Harvey. He also leaves a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins and close friends. A graveside celebration of life service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 28, at Holly Lawn Cemetery. Harris Funeral Home has been entrusted with the home going service.
