Our body scrubs are specialised treatments that are designed to cleanse your skin and make it look and feel healthy. A body scrub generally involves the use of abrasive materials like sea salt, ground coffee and sugar, mixed with essential oils and other substances that moisturise and nurture your skin.
Why do we need body scrubs?
Do you know that right now, there’s a blanket of dead skin cells all over your skin? You definitely do not feel it, but it’s there. All over your skin.
Our skin is constantly regenerating itself. It is constantly producing new skin cells and shedding old skin cells. Every hour nearly 40,000 dead skin cells are shed. In a day, you lose over a million dead skin cells. However, most of the dead skin cells do not shed easily and may build up. All these dead skill cells are clogging up your pores causing skin problems like acne and causing your skin to look dull and lack-lustre. There are a few reasons why this might happen.
As we grow older, the whole process of creating new skin cells and shedding of dead ones becomes slower. Our skin produces less oil and the process of shedding dead skin cells becomes slower.
Even lack of proper skin care can cause unnecessary dead skin build-up.
We have microscopic exocrine glands called sebaceous glands in our skin. They produce oily/waxy matter called sebum. This lubricates our skin. These glands are found on all parts of our skin except for the palms of our hands and soles of our feet. Excess buildup of sebum also causes many problems.
It is advised to exfoliate your skin properly regularly to exfoliate dead skin cells and to regulate the production of sebum. As the older dead skin cells are shed, newer radiant-looking skin is revealed.
So what does a body scrub do?
Body scrubs have a ton of benefits. Apart from exfoliating dead skin cells and removing impurities from the surface of your skin, they also help you get rid of rough, flaky skin. Yout skin is left feeling soft and smooth.
How to prepare for a scrub?
If it is your first time getting a body scrub, you would obviously have some doubts regarding how to prepare for it. It’ll be good to have a normal shower just before your session. Our massage rooms come with attached bathrooms, so pack an extra pair of clothing when you come! Make sure you’re comfortable and raise any concerns you have with your therapist.
Precautions
Sadly, scrubs are not for everyone. Since scrub treatments may involve vigorous scrubbing, if you have any sort of injuries, infections, etc. you should consider consulting with a doctor before you book a session. Body scrubs are not recommended for people with fragile, broken, and sunburnt skin.
What to expect at Protone Day Spa?
Even though technically, you can prepare and administer body scrubs right at home, the entire experience becomes much more invigorating at an actual spa. The materials we use are of the finest quality, and our masseurs are well experienced at what they do. All you have to do is relax, we’ll take care of everything else. The only major difference in the different types of scrubs available at Protone Day Spa is in the materials used.
If you’re planning on getting a complete skin nourishing experience, you should consider getting a body wrap as well. Scrubs open up the pores of our skin and the benefits of a body wrap are increased when administered right after a body scrub. The entire experience can leave you feeling refreshed and reinvigorated.
